DAY 4✿ My favorite Mexican tradition! POSTED ON: Sep, 18th, 2019. BY: Loree Rico.

Dead Day is my favorite tradition. It is celebrated on November first and second. It's a Mexican celebration that honors the dead.the traditions of this celebration include visiting loved ones who have already departed in cemeteries and prepare altars with food, candles, incense, photographs and flowers to remember them.

The traditional flowers of this period are the flowers of cempasúchil. Its beautiful intense yellow color characterize these flowers. Each year approximately two million flowers are used for the celebration.

The Aztecs also used this type of flower for their rituals, altars and tombs, believing that the flower kept the sun's rays by its color. Tradition says that they are scattered near the altar so that they can facilitate the soul's arrival at the offering, and do not get lost when it comes to earth.

One of the characters most associated with Day of the Dead around the world, are undoubtedly the famous catrinas. The figure as such of the catrina, it was created and conceived by the cartoonist José Guadalupe Posada in the porfiriato era in Mexico.
